Hendrickson wins second US National title

PARK CITY, UT -- Reigning World Champion Sarah Hendrickson, of Park City, UT, won her second US National title by outjumping the field in Sunday's National Championship on the 120 meter hill. She bested last year’s champion Jessica Jerome and 2009 World Champion Lindsey Van to take the top position.

Hendrickson won her first US title on the normal hill (90 meter) two years ago. Last year she sat out the National Championship to recover from knee surgery. Nick Fairall of Andover, NH, won the men's event.

"It was a pretty exciting day. I didn’t have a good day yesterday on the normal hill (during Springer Tournee), so I didn’t know what to expect going into the large hill," Hendrickson said. "I’ve always jumped better on large hills, so I’m very happy about today and glad we put on a show for the quite a few people who showed up."

Normal hill ski jumping and Nordic Combined U.S. Championships will take place in Lake Placid Oct. 12-13. The athletes will return to Park City Dec. 28-29 for Olympic Trials.

The Visa Women's Ski Jumping Team heads to Courchevel, France next week for a summer Grand Prix event.
