Geraghty-Moats Takes First Place at New Years Ski Jump Competitions in Lake Placid

Lake Placid, N.Y.—U.S. Visa Women’s Ski Jumping Team member Tara Geraghty-Moats of West Fairlee, VT took the top spot on the 90K New Years Master Ski Jump competition in Lake placid on December 29, 2014 with jumps of 97.0 and 92.5 meters under clear skies. She also took first place in the NYSEF New Years Ski Jump on December 30, 2014 with jumps of 100.0 and 87.5 meters. Her team-mate, Nina Lussi, of Lake Placid secured second place on both days with jumps of 86.0 and 88.0 meters on December 29 and jumps of 87.0 and 81.5 meters on December 30. Emilee Anderson of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, rounded out the podium with jumps of 81.5 and 71.0 meters on Tuesday and 66.5 and 64.5 meters on Wednesday.

"It was nice to be back in the East,” said Geraghty-Moats. “I love jumping well for the community that has helped me grow into the ski jumper I am. I hope to carry this good jumping that I achieved in Lake Placid into the 2015 World Cup season."

New National Team members Logan Sankey of Steamboat Springs, Colorado and Cara Larson of Barrington, Illinois finished fourth and eighth respectively in the field of nine competitors.

“The competition was very fair and there was a great atmosphere of spectators and competition,” said Coach Alan Alborn. "We just need to keep raising the level of all of our athletes.”

The U.S. Visa Ski Jumping Team will next be seen at the World Cup in Sapporo, Japan on January 10 and 11, 2015.
